When dogs and cats have behavioral issues, many times these negatively affect the bonding and interactions that they may have with their human families. Sometimes this even leads to rehoming them or even taking them to animal shelters because their behavior can no longer be managed. While undesired behaviors can sometimes be the result of unique traits of our furry companions, they can also be related to diseases and health conditions. Some of the most common behavioral problems we see potentially associated with medical conditions are separation anxiety, phobias (including thunderstorms and fireworks), cats that are urinating and defecating outside the litter box, and excessive grooming, among others.
